It's that time of year again! Summer Reading! Everyone knows about the summer program that public libraries plan and host every year but do you know why they do it? We do it to help students combat "Summer Slide," to introduce new experiences to patrons, and to provide services that are just not possible during other seasons of the year. Summer is a time when many families make plans to be together, but it is also a time when many of the reading skills children acquire in school get lost due to lack of use. Summer Reading programs encourage reading with the added benefit of earning prizes and having fun. Libraries encourage reading for fun, something children don't often have the opportunity to do while in school.
What can you expect at the Bath County Memorial
Library during Summer Reading? Fun, games, books, crafts, movies, animals, art, prizes, and music! We have events planned for every age, including adults. Yes. Adults. For the first time, the library will have an Adult Summer Reading program.
Adults will have the opportunity to talk about books, play games, make crafts, learn something new, and win prizes. We will make playlists, learn some family friendly games, and just have fun! Some of our events include; Bad Art Night, a BreakOut Box, a drawing workshop, and meal prep with some of our community partners. It's going to be so much fun!
So whether you are young or old, come by the library and sign up today! We promise, you will have fun!
