Summer Reading

1st - 4th grade

Tuesdays at 1 pm

June 5 — The Percussion Family
Children will transform empty canisters into drums by decorating them with
construction paper, markers, and paint. After drums are created, children will
experiment with making their own drum beats.

June 12 — Collaborative Music
After sharing Punk Farm by Jarrett J. Krosoczka, children will be guided through a
reader’s theater rendition of the story. Be sure to bring your camera to record this one!

June 19 — Wild Rhapsody
The roar of the lion, the trumpet of the elephant, and the cadence of hooves deliver a rhapsody of adventure and excitement. Get a front row seat for amazing stories, awesome science, and musical activities.

June 26 — Musical Reactions
Once music enters our ears, our brains produce responses based on what we hear. Lots of times, those responses include moving our bodies by dancing or doing other movements. How will you respond?

July 3 — Rhythm, Rhyme, and Repeat
When a great beat is on, you may find yourself tapping your foot, bobbing your head, or maybe even dancing in your chair. This program will have children exploring rhythm and rhyme in ways that are both familiar and new!

July 10 — Global Groove Games
We’ll play a traditional party game that is played around the world—Pass the Parcel! Children will unwrap a parcel as they wiggle, jump, dance, and learn. Who will win the prize inside?

July 17 — Historical Music Moments
The first ever music came from nature: animal sounds & bodily functions made up the world’s first melodies. Over time, human intelligence and technology have evolved to create new musical stylings. This program features a few specific events on the musical time line.

July 24 — We Love Elvis
Children will read stories and play games to help them get to know the personality of the king of Rock & Roll—Elvis!

*Most Tuesdays, Laykin Butcher, a SNAP Program Assistant, will join us at 2 pm for “Serving Up My Plate: a yummy curriculum”. Children will explore how to make healthy food choices and be physically active.
